In recent months, I have found Twitter to be a community bustling with friendly people looking to do good in the world. First, my friends at One Mans Note shared how they started a movement to leave uplifting messages for strangers around the world! Then, my friends at Love From Future You told me about their movement to raise awareness and support for mental health issues. Most recently, one of my own "secret notes" received a favorite from Operation Generosity-- and a new friend was born! |
Operation Generosity is a social network that is intended to help everyone, including the team at Operation Generosity, reach their contribution potential and impact their local communities. We piloted the program last year with family and friends and were amazed at how quickly it grew in just three months. People want to help others but often times they don't know how, don't have time or are afraid to take that step by themselves. Operation Generosity is structured to eliminate those road blocks by providing a community of people that are doing these random acts of kindness as a group and making it easier to share and disseminate kindness ideas that can change the world." - Ryan, Co-Founder
We believe that there is an incredible amount of kindness in the world that has yet to be tapped into. I'm sure you know tons of people that are great human beings but they don't give their time because they just aren't used to it, it's not habit. If we are able to tap into and open up some of that hidden kindness we know that this project will be able to change the world.
In 2015, every month will feature a new video which talks about an idea for kindness. We are going to encourage people to do those acts of kindness in their local community and share how it went and ideas to make things better.
We have received an incredible amount of response already and all of it has been positive. There are so many people who want to have a greater impact on their community and when you open up that stream of conversation there is amazing things that happen."
While Operation Generosity is primarily operating via Twitter right now, in the coming weeks they will be expanding their reach to include Instagram and YouTube. I'll post an update as #OpGen2015 expands!
In the meantime, check out their website and prepare to be inspired with their simple yet heartwarming stories of kindness, like this young homeless man who makes a living by spreading the gift of knowledge:
