I’ll be honest: I’m not that into fitness. Sure, I appreciate the medical importance of eating healthy and maintaining an active lifestyle. But my passion is for doing good and spreading kindness, not losing weight or building muscle. In fact, I’m of the opinion that if I’m extra kind, the goodness generated from those kind actions will have |
In all honesty, my regular workout routine consists of long walks, meditation, regular yoga and occasional short jogs. If it makes me feel calm and healthy, it’s usually up my alley.
But living in a cold winter climate, staying motivated to be fit (even at my non-impressive level) is a challenge. Let me put it this way: last weekend, it was negative 28 degrees where I live. When it’s negative 28 degrees, I challenge you to find ANYone who is willing to put down their hot cocoa and unbury themselves from their big fuzzy blanket to workout.
In an effort to help me push a little harder in the fitness department, I had been doing some thorough research about fitness bands. And as luck would have it, I received one for my recent birthday!
Bear with me… this isn’t a post promoting my new fitness band. Rather, it’s about finding the little ways to help up your attitude and help you feel better about yourself. For me, staying fit does make me feel good about myself. Maintaining and sharing a positive attitude makes me feel even better. Can you guess which one is easier to motivate myself to stick with?
That’s where my new fitness band opened my eyes… blending my passion for kindness and positivity with fitness!
My fitness band looks like a simple bracelet— no fancy bells and whistles like so many of them have. It doesn’t tell the time. It doesn’t show my step count. It just sits there on my arm, reminding me that it’s tracking me and working to help make me feel motivated to move more in an effort to feel better about myself. I love that about it.
But the accompanying phone app is where this thing really gets good.
“Wahoo! Who’s the best? You are!”
“Just two words: thank you!”
Those are things my fitness band’s app, ‘UP,’ has said to me in recent days. As it makes suggestions for me to help me stay on track and healthy, it does so in the most friendly, positive, encouraging way.
It compliments me when I reach my sleep or step goals “Hello Sleeperhero,” it read one morning after I achieved my sleep goal. "You did it— yesterday, you hit your step goal,” it commended another day. “Think of all the energy you’ve generated with those moves, then make today a day worth remembering.”
Fitness goals aside, this small way of keeping me smiling and feeling positive has completely changed my outlook each day. Instead of having the Monday blues, for instance, I read the positive things my fitness tracker has customized for me and I leave home with a smile on my face, feeling excited about the challenges and accomplishments that lie ahead. I have written before about the importance of complimenting yourself… but my new fitness tracker has reminded me of the power of a few simple words.
If an automated technology code’s kind words can inspire me at the start of the day, imagine what a difference I could make by sharing a kind word with another human being— or even myself! I’ve written about leaving secret notes for others to find… what about leaving them for yourself, so you are sure to start each day with an uplifting reminder?
All of this has made me wonder what other people do to keep their attitude positive. My fitness tracker’s uplifting sayings have inspired me to take more steps and feel better about myself mentally and physically. What has inspired you to stay positive and look on the bright side? How have you pushed yourself to reach your goals? I hope you’ll comment below to share!
