Things have been going really well for me lately. Relationships are all strong, family is healthy, job is fulfilling, finances are settled-- even the house is clean! It's rare for things to fall into place and have the days and weeks run smoothly. And yet, I've had this nagging feeling of unease. I've always believed that life is like a roller |
My job requires that I spend a good amount of time driving from place to place for meetings, and I will occasionally see something that piques my interest or makes me smile. One day, for instance, I noticed a beautiful mural painted on the side of an abandoned building-- two beautiful yellow flowers surrounding the words "Just hold on, it gets better." I should stop and take a picture of that, I thought, one day when I'm not in a hurry to get back to the office.
Several months ago, I first noticed a clever art demonstration on another city building-- a robot painted on the building encouraged people to list (in chalk along the lower portion of the building) what things they'd like to do before they die. I thought it would be fascinating to stop and talk a walk alongside the building, reading what strangers had written as their life goals. I |
Sadly, as I drove by this "Before I die" demonstration last week, I noticed that it had been painted over. The building it was on is now being remodeled, and the words that people had written over the course of weeks, months and possibly years were now gone. As I kicked myself for missing this great opportunity, it hit me… the time is now! The time is always now!
This week, I was in the area for a meeting and made a purposeful decision to go less than two minutes out of my way to snap a photo of the new mural that I noticed. And in doing so, I passed the now-erased "Before I die" building. Guess what was written on the side of it? See the photo above-- the words "before I die.." were crossed out, and "TODAY!" was written above it.
EUREKA, am I right?
TODAY is the day, my friends. Take the extra minute. Go the extra mile. Do it, and don't look back. We may not know what's coming tomorrow, but today is here now, so let's love it and live it to its fullest!
