Do you ever hear a little voice in your head, guiding you in the right direction, reminding you that everything will be okay, letting you know you are not alone? I hear that voice sometimes. Often, it sounds suspiciously like my mother, who now speaks to me from Heaven. Years back, I had a long phone chat with my mom. I was a bit depressed at the time and felt nothing in my life was working out the way I had hoped. She patiently listened to my complaining and then calmly reminded me that the trying time would pass, |
The next morning, I awoke to a beautiful surprise. My mom had called back, knowing she would get my voicemail, and had left a message for me to listen to first thing that morning. Thankfully, I was wise enough to save this message, and I have listened to it many times since.
In it, I was encouraged to count my blessings. My mom firmly believed that your mind is your most powerful tool and that positive thoughts breed positive outcomes. And so, she listed a few simple blessings to help me focus on all that is good and wondrous in the world. These are the wise and peaceful words I heard:
When you're thinking about all of these blessings that you have, think about things that you typically don't think of when you think of a blessing. Think of things that you have that you don't really think about… the sense of taste, the feel of ice cream as it goes down your throat. Think of the sense of excitement you have that you can enjoy the beauty in the world. Think of birds that you love to watch. Think of the water, the river. Think of things that give you peace and relaxation or serenity when you see or hear or touch or feel them. All of these are blessings that you can enjoy."
What are some blessings in your life? What do you do to help yourself remember these on a daily basis? I hope you'll share!
