But, having been apart from my family all day, I knew it was important to spend a few minutes sitting and chatting with my husband. As I settled onto the couch and rested my head on his shoulder, I saw this as "one more thing" to do before I could go to sleep.
And then it happened: I closed my eyes, and I felt peace wash over me. The stress of the day faded away, and my mind emptied. I felt like a depleted battery that had just been plugged in. For several minutes, we just sat, in silence, with my eyes closed, recharging.
Then I realized it-- the importance of taking the time to recharge.
When things are busy and life is moving at record pace, it's hard to not think of this as "one more thing" on our list. But this one more thing is crucial-- absolutely crucial-- to maintaining balance (and sanity)!
Depending on my mood, I may go for a run, I may do yoga, I may watch a funny rerun on TV. I may hold my cat, I may snuggle up in bed with a childhood blanket. Or, when I just need to clear my mind, I may rest my head on a loved one's shoulder and enjoy the support.
It's different for each of us, and it varies depending on our mood. But as I was reminded, these small acts of mindfulness can help us reset and recharge so we can take on all that we have to tackle!
What is it that you do to recharge? How do you make sure you take the time to re-energize yourself? I can't wait to hear!
